“We will be missing part of our identity.”

The 403-year-old Werneck Brewery in Bavaria, Germany, will close down permanently due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Tracing back to 1617, it’s been owned by the same family since 1861 and survived wars, economic recessions and changes to beer preference.

However, now 15 full time employees and several part-time workers will loose their job after restaurants were closed and the government banned all mass gatherings until September 1.

The brewery manager Christine Lang said the decision to close was tearful to her family who hasn’t had it easy as they fought against competition and beer tax.
