Workers protested conditions at an Amazon warehouse outside Detroit Wednesday. At least two positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed at the warehouse in Romulus, Michigan. #Coronavirus #Covid19 #Amazon

“You’re not really doing social distancing,” says worker Mario Chippen. “There’s about 5 to 600 people in the building on a daily basis. Sometimes we are shoulder to shoulder and can’t be six feet away.”

In a statement, Amazon defended the conditions, telling The Detroit News that it has been “tripling down on deep cleaning” and changing procedures so employees were keeping a safe distance from each other.

“We want to get the customers their product but our lives matter as well,” says worker Ryan Stepney.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. Older adults and people with existing health problems are among those particularly susceptible to more severe illness, including pneumonia.
