Biden in Michigan: ‘You Can’t Build a Wall High Enough to Keep a Pandemic Out’

Date: 2021-02-19 21:32:35

U.S. President Joe Biden urged all Americans to get the COVID vaccine when it becomes available to them, insisting the vaccines are safe.

Biden’s remarks came shortly after he toured a state-of-the-art coronavirus vaccine plant as extreme winter weather across broad swaths of the U.S. handed his vaccination campaign its first major setback, delaying shipment of about 6 million doses.

Biden said he came to the Kalamazoo, Michigan plant because he wanted “the American people to understand the extraordinary, extraordinary work that has been done to undertake the most difficult operational challenge this nation has ever faced.”

The president slammed his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, saying he “failed to order enough vaccines, failed to mobilize the effort to administer the shots, failed to set up vaccine centers.”

“That changed the moment we took office,” Biden said.

The president said he understands the hesitancy among some populations to taking the vaccine.

But he underscored the necessity of widespread vaccinations in the U.S. to conquering the pandemic. And he urged all Americans to get one.

“If there’s one message to cut through to everyone in this country it’s this: the vaccines are safe. Please, for yourself, your family, your community, this country, take the vaccine when it’s your turn and available. That’s how to beat this pandemic,” he said.
