Biden’s First Mideast Call to Be With Israeli PM Netanyahu, Psaki Says
Date: 2021-02-16 20:51:29
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Tuesday that President Joe Biden’s first call to Middle East leaders will be with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“It will be soon.” Psaki told reporters she did not have an exact day for the call. “Israel is of course an ally,” she added.
Psaki said the White House had made clear “from the very beginning,” that the relationship with Saudi Arabia is going to be recalibrated. She said discussions will be held counterpart to counterpart and that Biden will have discussions in the future with King Salman.
In response to questions about Biden meeting with foreign leaders, Psaki said it would be “a couple of months,” before any were invited for in-person visits to the White House.
