Impeachment: Castro Spars With Defense Over Trump’s ‘Fight to the Death’ Tweet

Date: 2021-02-12 22:40:01

Senators are submitting written questions to the prosecution and the defense in the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump.

While responding to one of the question, House impeachment manager Rep. Joaquin Castro sparred with Trump attorney Michael van der Veen over what Trump was insinuating when he tweeted saying Democrats would “fight to the death.”

The original tweet from Donald Trump read: “If a Democrat presidential candidate had an election rigged and stolen with proof of such acts at a level never seen before, the Democrat senators would consider it an act of war and fight to the death. Mitch and the Republicans do nothing. Just want to let it pass.”

Castro argued this meant Trump was insinuating Republican should also “fight to the death,” while van der Veen said Trump was arguing that Republicans “are stronger.”
