New York’s MTA is Launching an Ultraviolet Light Device to Kill Coronavirus

New York’s Metropolitan Authority (MTA) is launching an ultraviolet light pilot program to decontaminate public transport to prevent the spread of coronavirus, AP reports.

“It’s not science fiction,” said Dr. David Brenner, Director of the Center for Radiological Research at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, who’s scientists are working on the project.

For the 1st time in history the New York subway stopped operating earlier this month. The trains also started closing for nightly disinfection between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The UV light that helps disinfection isn’t the same light that gives people a tan but it can be harmful with passengers on board.
