Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers have started their argument against the constitutionality of the impeachment trial.

Lawyer Bruce Castor began his remarks in the Senate debate by complimenting the prosecutors’ “outstanding presentation” and said the January 6th attack on Capitol Hill was “repugnant in every sense of the word, the loss of life is horrific.”

Where the presentation by House Democrats combined emotional and personal touches in a presentation heavy on law and history, Castor, opened his with a long and meandering discourse that flattered senators and railed against efforts to stifle free speech.

He had before him a yellow legal pad with handwriting on it but did not appear to be reading off any prepared remarks.

During the first half-hour of his presentation, he barely touched on the sole issue of the day _ whether the trial itself of a former president is unconstitutional.
